Australian Music for Australian Kids!
ABC CLassic kids Sounds like Australia
Jessica Wells has been busy working with the ABC and the Opera House to create a series of podcasts and a live show for young children: ABC Classic Kids “Sounds Like Australia”.
Working with Ensemble Offspring and Playschool presenter Luke Carroll the podcasts follow the story of Kirra Quokka who goes on a journey from Rottnest Island all the way across Australia to the Opera House.
Jessica arranged featured Australian music by Nigel Westlake, Ross Edwards, Iain Grandage and Martin Wesley-Smith, as well as writing her own compositions for the project.
The live show played to 4098 audience members in 34 performances in the Utzon Room. The podcasts have had over 22,000 downloads so far! Listen to all the episodes here:

Oranges and Lemons & Frere Jacques
This arrangement is for piano and treble choir, with optional handbells and vibraphone (or kids could try playing on glockenspiels!). It is arranged for two parts, beginning with “Oranges and Lemons” in unison and with a simple one-note harmony. The middle section lets the kids sing in French for “Frere Jacques” (unison and then in thirds). The final section cleverly overlays the two melodies!
